VA Mortgages – Veterans Administration Home Loans

Since Congress passed the GI Bill of Rights in 1944, the VA Mortgage Guarantee Program has provided peace of mind for home buyers who are active duty personnel, servicemen, or veterans—those who have served in active duty in the US armed forces and were discharged or released from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable discharge. US National Guard and US Reserve Training members and eligible surviving military spouses also may qualify for the VA Mortgage Guarantee Program. Under the provisions of the program, the United States government guarantees veterans access to VA mortgages made by private mortgage lenders, such as Mortgage America.

Note: To qualify, one of the following must be true: you have served at least 181 days during peacetime (active duty); you served at least 90 days during war time (active duty); you served 6 years in the Reserves or National Guard; you are the spouse of a service member who was killed in the line of duty.
